Garanti BBVA achieved its highest score in S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment
Garanti BBVA has achieved its highest score of 85 in the 2024 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), a prominent ESG evaluation platform. With this assessment, the bank has once again solidified its position as the highest-scoring institution in the Turkish banking sector, as in previous years. Furthermore, it has ranked 15th among 668 financial institutions evaluated globally.
The S&P Global CSA is one of the most respected platforms for assessing corporate sustainability performance worldwide, serving as a key reference point for international investors during decision-making processes. As part of the evaluation process, organizations are meticulously reviewed across various domains, including business ethics, governance, financial activities, environmental and social performance, risk management, climate change initiatives, transparency, and human and labor rights.
Garanti BBVA's CEO, Mahmut Akten, stated, "Since the early 2000s, Garanti BBVA has been actively engaged in sustainability efforts, which we have identified as one of our strategic priorities. In this context, we are taking significant steps for the transformation of our bank, our customers, and all our stakeholders. Being the first bank in Türkiye to commit to phasing out coal and to join the United Nations Net-Zero Banking Alliance are just a few examples of these steps. Our approach encompasses sustainability, governance, environmental, and social issues, tackling topics ranging from gender equality to energy efficiency, from financial literacy to circular economy, and integrating them into our business practices. The recognition of our efforts by an impartial and international platform such as S&P Global CSA, with a recordbreaking score of 85, is a testament to our progress. Expectations from institutions in international ESG evaluation platforms increase every year. Therefore, continuous development is crucial to ensure the sustainability of success. This year, we made advancements in various areas, including financed emissions, financial inclusion, and the management of emerging risks, resulting in an 11-point improvement compared to last year. The acknowledgment of our transparent and sustainable business practices by S&P Global CSA, one of the most reputable assessment bodies in the international arena, holds great importance for us in strengthening our relationships with stakeholders. Moving forward, we will continue to contribute to sustainability from every angle, not only through our ambitious goals but also by enhancing the support and advisory services we provide to our customers with sustainable finance products and services."
